Alaska Driving Laws

On September 1st, 2008, Alaska house passed bill 88, and although called "Alaska's text messaging ban", this bill is not only directed towards cell phones though, but towards all monitors within a driver's view. I think this is a great idea, because not only texting can distract you. In all honesty, ANYTHING that takes your eyes or mind off of the task at hand can cause your life to change in an instant. Any monitor, exspecially in a darker car, can attract your eyes like a moth to a flame.

The law also prohibits the unlawful installation of monitors into vehicles (Sorry, Pimp My Ride [is that show even on anymore? Whatever.]). The vehicles that already have any kind of monitors installed are also not allowed to have those monitors be modified to be able to be viewed by the driver. If you're found violating any of Alaska's texting laws, you'll be slapped with a misdemeanor, and if you're involved in an accident, you could be facing a felony and/or jail time (So, stick with the snowmobiles, Patrick). I think that although this law may seem strict, it'll go towards the safety of the people, and help out in the long run.

  1. I believe that this is a very well written article. I also believe that this is the state that I would like to live in. There restrictions make sense and they did not go overboard with their restrictions. Good job Tim.
